Spring has sprung!

Spring has sprung!

Time out for the cold weather, spring has sprung! It's time to get rid of some things so that you too can get ready for growth. These are some tips and tricks to help you spring clean like a pro.

When in doubt, throw it out

1. This should not be an all weekend affair.

Instead of spending tireless hours straight cleaning yourself mad, set aside small time periods each day to get all of your household tasks to get done. Create a manageable schedule of tasks that need to be done, and get everyone to help. Break it up by using a month long cleaning schedule like the one below.

2. Wear clothes that you don't mind if they getting dirty.

Obviously, you do not want to clean in your Sunday best. Try to clean in clothes that you plan on throwing out anyway so that you won't risk messing up your favorite pair of jeans.

3. One task at a time.

It's so easy to get overwhelmed looking at what an unorganized mess things may be. But this time, instead of looking at the big picture, instead focus on small sections at a time. Try not to use your phone as a distraction, breaks and distractions will only elongate the cleaning process.

4. Use a specific order.

There's no point in cleaning one area more than one time if you clean it efficiently the first time. Instead of "eye-balling it", clean in a specific order. Start at the top and move to the bottom. Start from one side and move to the other. Clean everything in the path that you have chosen and then out the door and on to the next room.

5. Dance while you clean or clean while you dance

Dancing makes everything more fun! When you dance while you clean, the time will fly by. You’ll be jamming out, burning calories, singing, and cleaning all at the same time. Start dancing while you clean and everyone else may want to join in too. Crank up the tunes, and get your house clean!

6. Get the whole family involved

Spring cleaning should not be a solo affair. You get the most done when you work collectively to get something done. I’m sure cleaning is not everybody’s favorite thing to do, but why not endure the chores together! You’ll get the whole house cleaned in a fraction of the time it would take you to do it alone, and time will pass by faster with some one accompanying you. As you clean together, you collectively do less work. Besides, it feels great to accomplish together.

7. When in doubt, Throw it out

There’s no use of holding on to something that has not been touched. No matter how cute or how functional your intentions for an object may be, if you can’t remember the last time you’ve used it, or haven’t used it this year, chunk it! You cannot declutter if you are holding on to good intentions. There will always be something better, cuter, or more useful than this item that has been sitting around collecting dust for the past year. When you need something, most likely you will go out and buy it. The Chinese hit the nail on the head with their theory on “feng shui”, if your living space is not in order, you won’t be able to get things in order anywhere. Purge, and make room for new!

Hacks to help you clean like a Pro

Now that the house is clean, GET OUTSIDE

Since you’ve been shut in for hours on end, get outside and soak up the sun! The spring air is so delightful especially after a winter season that seems like it has lasted forever. Time to get some fresh air, feel the good weather. There’s nothing like feeling the sun on your skin, hearing the birds chirp, and seeing the flowers begin to bloom again. Everything comes alive in the springtime, take it in. It keeps you well. Take a walk, get outside, and add to the beauty by planting some flowers. Take advantage of all the springtime has to offer.
